A native of Alabama and graduate of Auburn University’s Building Science Program, Michael brings over twenty years of hands-on construction experience to Gulf Star Inspection Services. His inspections are thorough, technically grounded, and built on a deep understanding of how quality homes should be assembled — and what happens when they’re not.

Michael’s background in custom residential construction and project management gives him a rare advantage as an inspector. Years of hands-on building experience have given him a deep understanding of how homes should be put together, where shortcuts or oversights often occur, and how those issues can affect performance over time. That insight allows him to spot potential problems others might miss and to explain their implications clearly to his clients.

Guided by a strong foundation in code compliance, safety standards, and building science, Michael focuses on how systems interact — ventilation, insulation, drainage, framing, and finishes — and uses an investigative approach to identify potential future risks before they become costly repairs. His goal is not only to document conditions, but to provide clear, actionable guidance that helps clients make confident decisions.

Earlier in his career, Michael oversaw the construction of complex residential, commercial, and institutional buildings, from multi-story structures to finely detailed custom homes. He later led the development of a low-impact community, collaborating closely with architects to craft 16 unique residences. That experience — managing challenging builds with precision and care — now shapes his work as an inspector.

Beyond his technical expertise, Michael is known for being calm under pressure, honest in his assessments, and generous with his knowledge. He values clear communication and treats every client with respect, recognizing that a home is often one of the largest investments — financially and emotionally — a person will make. Whether it’s a first home, a major renovation, or a custom build, he understands how much is at stake and works to ensure his clients have the information they need to protect both their investment and their peace of mind.

Now inspecting homes throughout the Mobile Bay and Gulf Coast region, Michael founded Gulf Star Inspection Services to provide inspections clients can trust — rooted in deep construction knowledge, straightforward communication, and a genuine commitment to protecting their investment.

Michael Murray is certified by InterNACHI®, the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors — the world’s largest organization of residential and commercial property inspectors. As a CPI®, he’s passed rigorous exams, adheres to strict Standards of Practice, and completes annual continuing education.
